Farm Fence
User's Comments

"My husband and I recently purchased our dream farm in upstate New York. Like many dream farms it needs a good deal of work and fencing.

We investigated all available fencing options and were disappointed. Then we found ElectroBraid™.

First, we were amazed at the low price for such a high quality product.

We had already installed a mile of high tensile wire fence. Tired of wrestling with difficult wire and specialty tools, we were delighted with the ease of installing ElectroBraid™.

ElectroBraid™ carries voltage so effectively that even our biggest Scottish Highland bulls respect this fence. It's also easy to move for rotational grazing.

We are so impressed with the quality, safety factors, appearance, ease of installation, and pricing of ElectroBraid™, we plan to fence our entire 193 acres using ElectroBraid™.

Please feel free to use us as a reference for any potential customers with questions."

"Your product is the best thing to happen to us in a long time. We have added ElectroBraid™ as a top-rail protector on our existing 4-board fence. The advantages are numerous:

Safety for the horses;

Less wear and tear on the pasture grass along the fences because the horses no longer pace the fence line;

Fence board repair is now almost non-existent;

ElectroBraid™ is very professional and clean looking;

We no longer have electric wire breaking and tangling in the horses' legs;

We no longer have horses chewing the boards until they become unsafe and dangerous.

We have installed ElectroBraid™ throughout our entire farm, and we are completely satisfied.We highly recommend anyone looking for fence products, or to improve existing fences to consider ElectroBraid™. Sincere thanks."

"We were separating our calves from our cows, getting them ready to be weaned. That's always when the calves go through the fences. Some are spooky and run through anything. They run through page wire and barbed wire easily. So I was faced with having to put up rail fencing at quite a cost.

I was introduced to ElectroBraid™, so I thought we'd try it. It's cheaper and it's attractive.

So we separated the calves from the cows, expecting to see some calves running through the ElectroBraid™ just like they have through every other fence, but for some reason I cannot explain, the calves haven't gone near the fence.  Right from the word "go", right from the start, they have not gone near the fence. You can go down there and walk around and there are no tracks near the fence. The calves are always 3-5 feet away from it. The cattle totally leave it alone.

We had the cattle separated, in the proper yards, in maybe an hour and a half. In previous years, it would be an all-day event because we would be losing cattle through the fence and we would be chasing them back in again. Now it's a picnic.

I can't explain it.  I just know it's working so well that I can go away whenever I want.

I couldn't do what I've just done with any other fencing. My cattle are weaned. They've adjusted well. They were weaned outdoors where they should have been weaned. It's been a pleasure working with ElectroBraid™, and it took just one day to put it up. We are holding 70 cows and 70 calves in that area."

Additional phone call following the initial recorded interview: "We just had a pretty stressful time loading some cattle for market and they were difficult to catch. There were some pretty wild cows in the bunch. We had them penned in the corner and they had three options: they could go through the new ElectroBraid™, go through us, or go in the barn.

They didn't even look at going through the ElectroBraid™. They only looked at the barn and us. Frequently they went through us, but the fence was perfect.

I just wanted to let you know we're really satisfied with it."

"As a veterinarian engaged in clinical practice for over thirty years, I have encountered many horses injured by contact with various types of fencing. In my opinion, ElectroBraid™ is a safe and effective alternative to materials currently in use."

"I spent about two hours and put up a 1/2 mile of ElectroBraid™ by myself. I just used steel stakes, shoved them into the plowed field, then pulled it up tight by hand. Then I laid the braid right in the plastic insulators. That's all there was to it.

The ElectroBraid™ is now up for a month. My cows have grazed beside it all the time. No problem at all.. they never got out once.

There's something about it... they won't come near it.

I've never seen them closer than 5 feet. There's a trench, a dead furrow, right beside the electric fence. Normally the cattle walk the trench, rather than in the plowed field, or in the pasture. But now they don't, they stay right away from that fence. Whether it's the size of the braid, or the shininess of the braid, there's something about it, they just won't go near it. It's almost as if they can sense the electricity without having to touch it.

The animals respect this fence more than any fence I have ever used. It's like they think it's a mile high.

As far as I can see it's the best fence we ever owned"

ElectroBraid's experience at our test farm in Nova Scotia

Trial by ice
(see pictures)

In the winter of 1998, we had a freezing rain that put 2" of ice on everything. The fence included. Some lines, where there was more than 130' between posts, sagged seriously. However, as soon as the ice melted, or fell off, the fence sprang back to its original shape. Where the distance between posts was less than 50', the lines sagged only slightly. There was no damage to the fence.

Trial by flood
(see pictures)

In January of the same year, we had a foot of snow on the ground; then the temperature climbed and it rained heavily, overflowing brooks and flooding low-lying areas. The lower pasture and driveway was under a foot and a half of water, flowing fast enough to sweep the feet out from under you. Along with the water came branches, logs, ice pans 6 to 10 inches deep and as big as 12 ft. across. In the middle of this was a stretch of ElectroBraid™ was a T-bar post we had used as a "dropper" resting on top of the ground.

Floating branches caught the T-bar, the ice pans built up around it and pushed the whole fence about 20' out of line. It could have been fixed easily, as soon as the water went down a little, by simply unclipping the braid from the insulators on the T-bar but we chose to leave it there and let it freeze in the ice for the next THREE MONTHS. We wanted to see how ElectroBraid™ would stand up to that kind of abuse. The next big thaw in March freed the braid and it snapped back to its original shape. One of the posts at the edge of the brook had shifted. As a result, one line of ElectroBraid™ had to be shortened by a foot. Total maintenance time 15 minutes.

Trial by tree
(see pictures)

During a major wind storm in winter, a tall spruce tree snapped in half. The top half landed across our ElectroBraid™ fence. All four lines of braid were mashed to the ground and then, later, frozen in. It was like that for some time. As soon as the tree was cut off the fence, the ElectroBraid™ snapped back into place as if nothing had happened.

The sum total of our spring maintenance on this 43 acre test farm with over 8000 feet of fence, was one line needed tightening (because of a post shifted), one T-bar post had to be replaced and one fallen tree had to be cut off the fence. No other part of any of our ElectroBraid™ fence needed any work at all. The spring fence maintenance took less than 60 minutes!

Editor's Notes:
  1. Although the animals won't touch the fence, they do graze up to the fence line.
  2. Animals are very aware of ElectroBraid™ because it is highly visible. The white and copper braid contrasts sharply with all backgrounds (including snow). Vibrations from wind , and ground tremors from passing traffic, cause ElectroBraid™ to "come alive".
  3. The magnetic field induced by an electric pulse, travelling along a conductor, can be measured by a volt-meter from a distance of 5 feet. Just as birds navigate by Earth's magnetic field, animals can sense magnetic fields.
  4. The copper conductors in ElectroBraid™ are much more conductive than the stainless steel in many electric fences. The difference in animal behavior is quite noticeable. It's like an early warning system - - your animals don't have to touch ElectroBraid™ to know that it's electrified!
